Join us for an unforgettable ice-fishing journey on the renowned Lake Simcoe, a haven for anglers in search of trophy jumbo perch. This trip was anything but easy—starting with high hopes and the challenge of finding fish. However, with determination and a willingness to adapt, the day transformed into an incredible showcase of strategy, finesse, and big rewards.
How We Catch Jumbo Perch on Lake Simcoe
The morning began with a slow start. Using Slabgrabbers, a trusted tool for covering water and finding schools, we moved from hole to hole, searching for signs of the big perch we knew were there. As time went on, frustration loomed, but it was clear that our initial approach wasn’t producing the results we were after. It was time to rethink our strategy.
Switching gears, we went finesse, pulling out small Ultra Tungsten Ice Jigs tipped with PowerBait. This subtle presentation, paired with ultra-light line and a one-to-one in-line reel, made all the difference. The change in tactics was like flipping a switch. The smaller, natural presentation proved irresistible to the jumbos lurking below. Slowly but surely, the action picked up, and we started landing the true giants that make Lake Simcoe famous.

The fight with these perch was nothing short of thrilling, especially on light gear. Each hookset brought anticipation, and every battle showcased the power of these fish. From their bright colors to their sheer size, these perch were worth every ounce of effort.
